About Us
Our winemaker, J. Maki (mack´ē, Finnish), began creating wine in 1973 with Zinfandel grapes from California.
To us, our vineyard is a big garden, where the emphasis is high on labor and low on chemical input. Since we love our grapes, sustainability of their environment is our utmost concern.
From picking to processing, our operations are done by hand, with the grapes gently pressed in small batches. We’re noted for our European styling, which fosters subtle and complex fruit flavors to develop and mature over time.
Since 1991, we have been committed to creating an international identity of quality grapes and fine wine. The big hurdle has been that Pennsylvania historically is not known for premium dry wines; to be taken seriously, we had to meet an international standard of quality.
With the bar raised higher for us, our vision has always been to create great wine. To be awarded the gold medal for champagne at the Olympics of wine competition - the Vinalies Internationales in Paris, France…and later, the silver medal for the Vidal Blanc Ice Wine at the same competition, have served to validate our vision.
We still remain, to this day, the only American winery honored with the gold medal for Champagne in Paris, France…ever!
Our enthusiasm abounds for the new releases over the next several years.
We look forward to hosting you at our vineyards and winery, and stirring your senses!
